[7-16-2025] July 2025 Webinar - Making (Marketing) Connections as A Veterinary Chaplain
Blog posts, newsletters, marketing materials, contacts with veterinary offices, social media, community classes, business networking, tabling events, newspaper articles, and TV interviews…getting the word out about veterinary chaplain services can be overwhelming, intimidating, and feel out of a chaplain’s wheelhouse. However, making connections and offering support are chaplain superpowers. These are the essence of great outreach. You may rely on word of mouth, but how do you get people talking about something that may not be top of mind and may be challenging — animals and the need for emotional and spiritual support? The good news is the words “animal” and “chaplain” spark curiosity. People want to talk about the animals in their lives and many crave deeper discussions about our connection to animals. Shel Graves, an animal chaplain with a communications background, will share some of her marketing efforts, how long it can take to see results, and the need for consistency and repetition. She’ll also discuss ethical concerns and share a key learning from doing news interviews.
[6-18-2025] Creating Healing Rituals: Supporting Humans After Animal Loss
This webinar explores how to create compassionate and meaningful healing rituals to support individuals grieving the loss of an animal companion. Participants will learn practical tools for honoring a human-animal relationship and fostering emotional and spiritual healing in themselves.
Dr. Peter Welsh, a senior veterinary surgery resident at Washington State University, welcomed participants to the second webinar in the Veterinary Chaplaincy 101 series. He expressed excitement about the diverse audience and encouraged them to visit the AAVChap website for past webinars. The webinar featured an exclusive question and answer session with Chaplain Scott Campbell, the founder of the American Association of Veterinary Chaplains. Scott discussed the role of the AAVChap in shaping the future of veterinary chaplaincy, emphasizing community building, continuing education, and advocacy. He also addressed differences and similarities between veterinary chaplaincy and human chaplaincy. The discussion covered various topics, including training for veterinary chaplains, reaching out to local veterinarians, and addressing questions about the afterlife. The webinar concluded with an invitation for participants to share their perspectives and experiences in future webinars.
