Celebration of Life & Remembrance for Our Animal Companions

The WSU College of Veterinary Medicine's Celebration of Life & Remembrance for Our Animal Companions is a quarterly event dedicated to honoring the lives and memories of our cherished animal companions. This inclusive gathering offers a supportive space for individuals to reflect on the deep connections shared with their animal friends and to find comfort in loss with a community that values the profound bond between humans and animals. The event includes a remembrance garland ceremony, where participants can honor their companions in a tangible and meaningful way, while celebrating the love and joy their lives brought. The event welcomes all, creating a space that is both reflective and supportive for believers and non-believers alike.

The field of chaplaincy is ever-expanding, with spiritual care showing up in new and unexpected places, while also deepening in established settings. Amidst these exciting shifts, organizations that support, educate, and certify chaplains are also undergoing significant changes. From SCA (Spiritual Care Association) and APC (Association of Professional Chaplains) to ACPE (Association for Clinical Pastoral Education), CIL (Chaplaincy Innovation Lab), NACC (National Association of Catholic Chaplains), NAJC (Neshama: Association of Jewish Chaplains), and many more—it can start to feel like a confusing bowl of alphabet soup! Join Animal Chaplain Rev. Sarah Bowen, BA Human Ecology, MA Religious Studies, and DMin (ABD) Animal Chaplaincy, for a lively and useful conversation about what’s going on—and what may be most helpful for you to know as someone engaged in veterinary chaplaincy.
