Celebration of Life & Remembrance for Our Animal Companions

The WSU College of Veterinary Medicine's Celebration of Life & Remembrance for Our Animal Companions is a quarterly event dedicated to honoring the lives and memories of our cherished animal companions. This inclusive gathering offers a supportive space for individuals to reflect on the deep connections shared with their animal friends and to find comfort in loss with a community that values the profound bond between humans and animals. The event includes a remembrance garland ceremony, where participants can honor their companions in a tangible and meaningful way, while celebrating the love and joy their lives brought. The event welcomes all, creating a space that is both reflective and supportive for believers and non-believers alike.

Kat Albrecht-Thiessen will discuss details about the ministry God is leading her to develop called Companion Animal World (CAW). This ministry will launch Pet Memorial Retreats for people having a difficult time with grief over the loss of a beloved companion animal and Compassion Fatigue Retreats for emotionally burned out and wounded animal industry professionals and volunteers in need of spiritual and emotional healing. These retreats are open to all but are Charismatic in nature and will include worship, prayer, journaling, Breath as Prayer, Painting with God, and the use of a prayer model developed around the scripture Isaiah 61:1-3 that says that God sent Jesus to heal the brokenhearted. Kat is the founder of CAW and of the Missing Animal Response Network (MARN) where she’s trained hundreds of “pet detectives” worldwide, many with search dogs trained to track and detect lost pets. Kat is a gifted seminar leader, K9 trainer, and author trained in ministry work through the Ministry Training Network’s “Doings What Jesus Did” Course (2012), the Bethel School of Supernatural Ministry Course (2017), and the Art Sozo “Painting with God” Course (2025). She lives on Vancouver Island with her husband and two dogs.
