Blog posts, newsletters, marketing materials, contacts with veterinary offices, social media, community classes, business networking, tabling events, newspaper articles, and TV interviews…getting the word out about veterinary chaplain services can be overwhelming, intimidating, and feel out of a chaplain’s wheelhouse. However, making connections and offering support are chaplain superpowers. These are the essence of great outreach. You may rely on word of mouth, but how do you get people talking about something that may not be top of mind and may be challenging — animals and the need for emotional and spiritual support? The good news is the words “animal” and “chaplain” spark curiosity. People want to talk about the animals in their lives and many crave deeper discussions about our connection to animals.

Shel Graves, an animal chaplain with a communications background, will share some of her marketing efforts, how long it can take to see results, and the need for consistency and repetition. She’ll also discuss ethical concerns and share a key learning from doing news interviews. Please share what you are doing to talk about veterinary chaplaincy services and bring your ideas, questions, suggestions, and any concerns to this AAVChap webinar.
